san diego has successfully conquered the craft beer scene, and we already have the best mexican food in california, so what’s the next food/beverage market to corner? our money is on deli sandwiches, where even the simplest combination of ingredients can yield amazingly delicious results. (not that sandwiches have to be simple.)

at big front door, we offer a fresh, diverse menu influenced by southern california’s dynamic communities and culture. and to ensure the quality of our ingredients, we roast and smoke all our meats in-house and make all our soups, salad dressings, sauces, and baked goods from scratch. not sure where to start with our menu? here are five of our deli sandwiches you should try first:

1. b.g.p. ​

will the b.g.p. (beef, gouda, pepperoncini) ever reach the b.l.t.’s level of fame? perhaps not, unless big front door goes worldwide. with our combination of savory roast beef, house smoked gouda and tangy pepperoncini, lettuce, roma tomato, red onion, chipotle aioli, and a splash of oil and vinegar on sourdough, worldwide domination is certainly a possibility.

2. club

the classic club sandwich is already a celebrity in the sandwich world, but how many sandwich joints can claim their turkey is roasted in-house? add perfectly-sizzled bacon, crisp lettuce and tomato, soft sourdough, and our made-from-scratch house mustard, and every other club sandwich you eat will be a has-been in comparison.

3. cali cubano

this torpedo sandwich draws inspiration from a variety of regional cuisines, so it fits right in with san diego’s gastronomic diversity. starting with our house cured and smoked pork loin, we add jack cheese, creamy avocado, red onion, pickle, mustard, and our exclusive jalapeno aioli for a spicy kick in the tongue. sigh. this one makes us happy just thinking about it.

4. hoisin-ginger pulled pork

in our twist on the popular banh mi sandwich, we pile tender pulled pork on a torpedo roll with carrot, cabbage, cilantro, scallion, and our homemade hoisin-ginger sauce. it’s the perfect cool and refreshing deli sandwich to lunch on during san diego’s notoriously long summer season. come to think of it, this sammy rocks in spring and fall and winter, too. ​

5. baby back ribs

we slather our house-smoked rib meat (from real ribs!) with made-from-scratch bbq sauce and toss on oven-roasted onion, shredded cabbage, plus a splash of oil and vinegar. we wrap it all up in a soft torpedo roll, and boom! every bite is a full-on barbecue party in your mouth. bonus: add a craft beer to wash it down, plus a backyard and a couple of a buddies, and your saturday afternoon is complete. ​
