when anyone asks us to choose our favorite gourmet sandwich on the bfd menu, it’s hard not to say “all of them.” and while we’re happy to make recommendations based on preferred ingredients and dietary needs, sometimes it’s best to consult the experts: our loyal customers.
based on reviews and in-house compliments, there are a few standout sandwiches that get a disproportionate amount of love. not sure what to choose during your next visit to big front door? check out these top sandwiches, with reviews ranging from “very inventive” to “heavenly”:

cali cubano

there’s a reason we cure and smoke all our meats in-house—it’s the only way to get the flavor and texture just right. after that, the challenge is selecting the perfect additional ingredients to create an experience your taste buds will never forget. our cali cubano pairs moist, tender smoked pork loin with jack cheese, avocado, pickle, red onion, mustard and jalapeno aioli on a torpedo roll. kien v. on yelp says, “don’t think too hard, get the cali cubano.”

the keeper

regulars know that our “sos” (sandwich of the season) can come and go anytime, but sometimes a particular “sos” will become such a hit that our customers lobby to keep it on the menu permanently. that’s what happened with the keeper, which features roast chicken breast, bacon, cheddar, fresh jalapeno, red onion, lettuce, house-made barbecue sauce, garlic aioli, and “a hint of magic i’m sure,” according to stephanie l. on yelp.

hoisin-ginger pulled pork

it’s no coincidence that fans of our hoisin-ginger pulled pork sandwich say it’s reminiscent of banh mi. we took the basic concept of the popular asian fusion creation and gave it a bfd twist with house-made hoisin-ginger sauce and cilantro joining carrot, cabbage, scallion, and slow-cooked pulled pork on a torpedo roll. if you like a little sweet with your savory in a sandwich, this fan favorite is for you.

deep v - sandwich for vegans and vegetarians!

vegans and vegetarians who are tired of being limited to traditional meat sandwiches with the meat removed can rejoice at our deep v sandwich. smoked potatoes give the deep v a crunchy texture to complement the avocado whip, lettuce, roma tomato, red onion, pea sprout, and oil and vinegar on whole grain bread. in fact, rachel h. on yelp and other former carnivores refer to the deep v as an excellent swap for their once-favorite blt.

avocado highway

rave reviews from bfd customers definitely give us a spring in our step, but it’s always nice to be recognized by famous foodies. and while we’re beyond proud that our avocado highway sandwich is one of zagat’s “9 favorite san diego sandwiches,” (snagging the article’s headline photo like a culinary supermodel), we’re not surprised. with stacked avocado, roma tomato, lettuce, oil and vinegar, and our signature parmesan crisp, “protein won’t be missed,” zagat says. come taste what they call the sandwich’s “bracing deliciousness” for yourself.

take their word for it—san diegans love bfd
